Air quality monitoring in the French north region “Hauts-de-France” is now realized by the Atmo Hauts-de-France federation.
Atmo Hauts-de-France is an association approved by the Ministry of the Environment, and a part of the national Federation ATMO. The association is administered as a partnership by representatives from several sources brought together from four disciplines: State services, local authorities, economical actors, environmental groups and qualified people.
Contents of the site
The Internet site shows in real time the concentration of pollutants from about 48 monitoring sites. The ATMO index, the national indicator of air quality, is calculated with the measurement of different pollutants each day. It is shown for each urban area where it has been calculated.
The website describes organizational structure, public information process and regional alerts. A map of France can be clicked on to give access to other French monitoring networks present on the Web.
It also gives information on air quality problems: pollution sources, air quality standards and thresholds, main pollutants measured and their effects on health.
Finally, a part is dedicated to measurement methods, air quality measurement campaigns and studies.
Consult the Atmo Index
The map on the homepage provides the latest Atmo Index. This index combines the measurements of several monitoring sites in main urban areas, and describes in a simple and synthetic way the quality of the air we breathe. It ranges on a scale of 1 to 10; lower is the Atmo index, better is the air quality.
